Title/Format/Rating/Source: Dance To Keep From Crying - LP - B - Audience
Date/Location/Venue: 1964 - London, UK - Marquee Club
Year & Country Issued/Label: 1983 - Denmark - Marquee
Comments: To my knowledge, this was the first release of a High Numbers concert. The source is a fairly decent audience recording. The same concert has been subsequently booted.
Track Listing: Dance (To Keep From Crying), Young Man Blues, Long Tall Shorty, Pretty Thing, Here, Instrumental #1 (You Really Got Me), Instrumental #2 (Green Onions), Blues Medley (Smokestack Lightning/Money)

Title/Format/Rating/Source: The High Numbers Live 1964 - CD - B - Audience (with studio tracks)
Date/Location/Venue: 1964 - London, UK - Marquee Club (possibly Railway Club 10/20/64)
Year & Country Issued/Label: 2005 - Japan - Yellow Dog
Comments: Another CD version of the High Numbers Marquee Club concert, with
previously unreleased High Numbers studio tracks Decent sound quality for the
High Numbers' live tracks, although the tape source has the highs cutting in and
out and it sounds like some noise reduction was used. "Here "Tis" is off-speed.
The studio tracks are from a high quality soundboard source (with some noise
reduction) and completely instrumental. While certainly an interesting find and
certainly noteworthy from a historical point of view, without Roger on vocals
(he does play harmonica on some of the tracks), I found the recordings somewhat
boring (sorry!). In the "Instrumental Jam", you can hear elements of "Magic Bus"
from "Live At Leeds" and in the last track ("Unknown Instrumental") you can hear
elements of "Elephants" (Pete's demo from "Scoop 3")
Track Listing: Live High Numbers:
I Gotta Dance To Keep
From Crying, You Really Got Me, Young Man Blues, Green Onions, I Gotta Dance To
Keep From Crying, Instrumental,
Long Tall Shorty, I Gotta Dance To Keep From Crying, Pretty Thing, Smokestack Lightning / Money, Here 'tis
Studio: Smokestack Lightning, Walking
The Dog, Unknown Instrumental, I'm A Man, Instrumental Jam, Memphis Tennessee,
Unknown Instrumental

Date/Location/Venue: 1964 - London, UK - Marquee Club
Year & Country Issued/Label: 1999 - USA - Head
Comments: A CD version of the High Numbers Marquee Club concert, with added High Numbers studio tracks and alternate takes of "A Quick One While He's Away" from The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus. Decent sound quality for the High Numbers' live tracks (considering the rarity of the source). Don't bother for the rest of the tracks.
Track Listing: Studio:
I'm The Face, Zoot Suit, Leaving Here, Here 'tis
Live High Numbers: Dance To Keep
From Crying, You Really Got Me, Young Man Blues, Green Onions, Improvisation,

Title/Format/Rating/Source: Who's Zoo - LP - B - Audience
Date/Location/Venue: 08/06/65 - London, UK - Richmond Athletic Grounds & 1965 Shindig TV
Year & Country Issued/Label: 1974 - USA - Trade Mark Of Quality
Comments: This 2 LP set pre-dated any official rarities compilation, by including most of the known "b" sides and "hard to find" tracks - and in very good sound quality. While all the studio tracks are available commercially, and the live tracks available on various CD releases, you can't beat the great cover!
Track Listing: Studio: I'm The
Face, Zoot Suit, Bald-Headed Woman, Daddy Rolling Stone, Anytime You Want Me,

Date/Location/Venue: 1965 - UK - Shindig Television Show
Year & Country Issued/Label: 2001 - USA - Hercules
Comments: A various artists compilation of performances from the Shindig TV Show. The Who tracks are kinda neat, and although just a few, this is sort of worth having. The sound is pretty clean.
Track Listing: Who Tracks: Daddy Rolling Stone, I Can't Explain (version #1), My Generation, I Can't Explain (version #2)

Title/Format/Rating/Source: Who Are The High Numbers? - CD - C- Audience
Date/Location/Venue: 06/02/66 - Grona Lund, Stockholm, Sweden - 1964 - Marquee Club, London, UK - 10/25/66 - Club Nalen, Stockholm, Sweden - 03/11/67 Marquee Club, London UK
Year & Country Issued/Label: 2002 - Unknown - Pirate Records/HiWatt
Comments: Great cover! This is an interesting CD due to the rarity of the 2 Swedish concerts and their track lists. Pretty amazing to have a live version of "Barbara Ann" and "A Legal Matter" from 1966! The Marquee Club is a dub from the usual sources. Unfortunately, the sound quality <of the Swedish material> is pretty poor - but listenable. The 06/02/66 show sounds better than the 10/25/66 show, but "Barbara Ann" is cut short and the source tape wobbles a bit. The last track (the 2nd "My Generation") does not exist on this CD, although credited!
Track Listing: 10/25/66: Heatwave,
Dancing In The Streets, Barbara Ann, So Sad About Us, Substitute, The Kids Are
Alright, I'm A Boy, My Generation
Marquee Club 1964: Dance To Keep From Crying, Young
Man Blues, Long Tall Shorty, Pretty Thing, Here 'Tis, You Really Got Me, Green
Onions, Spoonful, Smokestack Lightning, Money
06/02/66: Heatwave, Dancing In The Streets, Barbara
Ann, Daddy Rolling Stone, Uptight Outta Sight, A Legal Matter, Substitute, My
Generation
Marquee Club 03/11/67: My Generation (Does not
exist on CD)

Comments: Rare material - including a great live version of "The Kids Are Alright" (no drum solo!). Unfortunately, the sound quality is very poor.

Title/Format/Rating/Source: Crossing The United States - CD - B+ - Soundboard
Date/Location/Venue: 06/18/67 - Monterey County Fairgrounds, CA - Monterey Pop Festival, 1965 Various Sources, 1967 Smothers Brothers (Lip syncs), 04/06/68 New York, NY - Fillmore East
Year & Country Issued/Label: 1993 - Italy - Black Panther
Comments: Since the Monterey material has been released officially and all the other material on this disc can be found elsewhere, there isn't much of a point to this CD - other than the pretty cover. The sound quality is actually not as good as some of the sources that it attempts to copy from.
Track Listing: Monterey Pop Festival:
Substitute, Summertime Blues, Pictures Of Lily, A Quick One While He's Away,
Happy Jack, My Generation
Live 1965 (Common Sources): Daddy Rolling
Stone, I Can't Explain, My Generation

Comments: This was a nice album when it was first released, but made obsolete over time with the official release of the Monterey Pop box set and much better BBC CDs.
Track Listing: BBC Studio: Just
You And & Me, Leaving Here, Man With Money, Dancing In The Streets, Jingle

Year & Country Issued/Label: 1998 - USA - Unknown
Comments: The Fillmore East section of this CD is among the best of the Fillmore boots. However, the "bonus tracks from the Beat Club & Marquee Club, while soundboard in source are very "scratchy" sounding, making the rare performances difficult to enjoy.
Track Listing: Fillmore East '68:
