The Who - Bootlegs - Studio - Page 2 (F to K):

From Lifehouse To Leeds

The Who - From Lifehouse To Leeds - CD

Format/Rating: CD - A

Year/Country/Label: 1990 - Italy - Scorpio

Comments: This is one of the BEST Who bootlegs to ever come out. Apparently the master tapes for the studio tracks were found in a dumpster! These tracks are from the aborted New York recording sessions that were produced by Kit Lambert and for the most part sound VERY different than the common versions. Some of these versions made their way into the Who reissue program, but were unfortunately edited. The Leeds tracks are mono and of poor quality. However, it's the studio tracks which make this a gem.

Track Listing:

Studio:
Pure And Easy, Won't Get Fooled Again, Love Ain't For Keeping, Behind Blue Eyes, Baby Don't Do It, Getting In Tune

Live At Leeds '70:

The Genuine Scoop

Pete Townshend - The Geniune Scoop - CD Pete Townshend - The Geniune Scoop - CD (Insert)

Format/Rating: CD - A-

Year/Country/Label: 2003 - Japan - HiWatt

Comments: 5 CD Set - Unfortunately the vast majority of the songs were taken from other bootlegs and legitimate CDs (Scoop, Another Scoop, Scoop 3, The Lifehouse Chronicles, etc.) A few unique tracks, but not enough to fill up one CD - i.e. "My Generation" (the beginning is cut off, but it's a different demo than the flexi-disc demo that came with the 1982  "Maximum R&B" book.), "I'm A Boy" (Available on a vinyl bootleg, but this version has better sound quality), "I Always Say", "Riot In The Female Jail", "Accidents" (uncredited Thunderclap Newman song, which seems to have been "accidentally" added), "Run, Run, Run" (different demo version than common found on bootlegs), "Can't You See I'm Easy", etc. There are also some sloppy edits (i.e. you can hear where they tried to separate "So Sad About Us" from "Brrrrr"). Lastly, "Motherland Feeling" and "Rael" are sped up. Apparently the vinyl boot which they were "borrowed" from was at the wrong speed and it seems these bootleggers overcompensated. The set does come with a great insert (made of various international 45s, but it's very overpriced if all you're looking for is some new material... Comes with mini-poster insert (pictured)

Track Listing: My Generation, It's Not True, Circles, Things Have Changed, La, La, La, Lies, Call Me Lighting, The Kids Are Alright, I'm A Boy, Do The Strip, Kill My Appetite, I Can See For Miles, I Always Say, Run, Run, Run, Disguises, Don't Look Away, Politician, So Sad About Us, Happy Jack, Substitute, Pictures Of Lily, Melancholia, Magic Bus, King Rabbit, Lazy Fat People, Riot In The Female Jail, Accidents, Dogs, That Motherland Feeling, Rael, Overture, It's A Boy, 1921, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Christmas, The Acid Queen, Underture, Do You Think It's Alright?, Pinball Wizard, There's A Doctor, Go To The Mirror, Success, Tommy Can You Hear Me? The High Numbers Live 1964

Format/Rating/Source: CD - A- - Audience And Studio Tracks)

Year/Country/Label: 2005 - Japan - Yellow Dog

Comments: Another CD version of the High Numbers Marquee Club concert (possibly Railway Club 10/20/64), with tracks claiming to be unreleased High Numbers studio tracks Decent sound quality for the High Numbers' live tracks, although the tape source has the highs cutting in and out and it sounds like some noise reduction was used. "Here "Tis" is off-speed.

The studio tracks are from a high quality soundboard source (with some noise reduction) and completely instrumental. However, it has been confirmed that this is not The High Numbers (or The Who).

Track Listing:

Studio: Smokestack Lightning, Walking The Dog, Unknown Instrumental, I'm A Man, Instrumental Jam, Memphis Tennessee, Unknown Instrumental

Live High Numbers:
I Gotta Dance To Keep From Crying, You Really Got Me, Young Man Blues, Green Onions, I Gotta Dance To Keep From Crying,  Instrumental, Long Tall Shorty, I Gotta Dance To Keep From Crying, Pretty Thing, Smokestack Lightning / Money, Here 'tis

I Am Happy Birthday With Love

Pete Townshend - I Am Happy Birthday With Love - CD

Format/Rating: CD - B-

Year/Country/Label: 2000 - USA - Brilliant Yoad

Comments: A bad tape dub of the (3) three Pete Townshend Meher Baba albums, "Happy Birthday", "I Am" & "With Love". If someone took the effort and dubbed this directly from vinyl, it would have been a 1,000% improvement.

Instant Party

The Who - Instant Party - CD

Format/Rating: CD - A-

Year/Country/Label: 2001 - Japan - HiWatt

Comments: The best packaged bootleg ever! High quality reproduction of the 1967 USA tour book and many other niceties. Unfortunately, the CDs themselves are simply dubbed off of official CDs. Furthermore, they got a bit careless and on ~7 songs or so, the very beginnings were clipped off! They did such a wonderful job with the packaging, you can only wonder how they got so careless with the CDs...

Track Listing: I Can't Explain, Bald Headed Woman, Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere, Daddy Rolling Stone, Anytime You Want Me, My Generation, Shout And Shimmy, A Legal Matter, Instant Party (Talmy version), The Kids Are Alright, The Ox, La La La Lies, The Good's Gone, Substitute, Circles (Who version), I'm A Boy, In The City, Happy Jack, I've Been Away, Pictures Of Lily, Doctor Doctor, The Last Time, Under My Thumb, I Can See For Miles, Someone's Coming, Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (2nd version), Dogs, Call Me Lightning, Magic Bus, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1st version), Pinball Wizard, Dogs Part 2, The Seeker, Here For More, Summertime Blues, Heaven And Hell, I Don't Even Know Myself, Let's See Action, When I Was A Boy, Join Together, Baby, Don't Do It , Relay, Waspman, 5:15, Water, I'm A Boy (long version from Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy), Magic Bus (long version from Meaty Beatty Big And Bouncy), Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere (French "I Can't Explain" EP version with alternate vocals)

It's Face Demos

Pete Townshend - It's Face Demos - CD

Format/Rating: CD - B

Year/Country/Label: 1997 - Japan - Element of Crime

Comments: "It's Face Demos" title seems to be created as a combo of "Face Dances" and "It's Hard" - but there really are no "It's Hard" demos on this CD (unless you count "Teresa" which was actually meant originally for "Face Dances"). Most of the tracks are officially released in one form or another (with a few exceptions). It sounds as if the tracks were recorded from a high quality cassette. The sound quality itself is pretty good, but there's some nasty hisssssssss running through it.   Oddly enough, Pete has released most of the "Face Dances" demos between his 3 "Scoop" albums. Unreleased is "Daily Records" (which is on this CD) and "Another Tricky Day" (which some collectors have, but has yet to be released on any CD that I'm aware of). The other "unique" track to this CD is a different demo version of "It's In You" - a bit faster paced than the released version. The other "Face Dances" tracks on this CD might be slightly unedited or less processed counterparts of their released versions, but I like the sound quality better on the released versions. This CD adds some extra Who tracks from the "NY Sessions"...

Track Listing: How Can You Do It Alone, Daily Records, You Better You Bet, Don't Let Go The Coat, Dance It Away, What Is Love, Theresa, It's In You, Won't Get Fooled Again, Love Ain't For Keeping, Getting In Tune
