The Who Singles Discography - Part 3 *
* Note: Part 3 & Part
4 are slightly out of date order due to the grouping of the singles above
All songs written by Pete Townshend unless otherwise noted.
The next intended single, was supposed to be "Circles" b/w "Instant Party Mixture (released finally in 2015). However, the band fired producer Shel Talmy and recorded/released "Substitute" on their own (see Part 4). A law suit between the parties erupted and Shel Talmy continued to release singles on the Brunswick label.
A Legal Matter / Instant Party - UK - March 8, 1966 - Brunswick 05956 45 (Not released in the USA). "Instant Party" was actually the Shel Talmy produced version of "Circles". "Instant Party Mixture" was a completely different song, but apparently the label/parties had some confusion due to the lawsuit. It's worth noting that several releases in Holland, "Circles" was actually titled, "Instant Party Mixture" <see above>. Promo <UK "demo"> issued on red label <see above>.

Circles / Instant Party Mixture - UK - April 6, 2015 - Brunswick (Polydor) 4713983 45. This is a "recreated" single included with the 2015 UK Brunswick Singles Box Set. Had The Who and Shel Talmy not parted ways, this single was intended to be released. "Circles" is the same Shel Talmy produced version that was released as "Instant Party". "Instant Party Mixture" (not to be confused with the incorrectly titled "Circles") is Pete Townshend's "pot song", and each of the band members gets a turn on vocals. The "Mixture" is the "Johnny B. Goode" (written by Chuck Berry) ending. Unfortunately, the ending was faded out early for the 2002 "My Generation" release, but restored for the 2016 version.
