THE SUMMIT 1975
(Live At The Houston Summit, 11/20/75)

There's been a lot of buzz over this video for quite a few years. Apparently someone who worked at the venue came across some 3/4" tapes and held onto them for many years. These tapes were originally offered for some ridiculous price and many fans went crazy over them, offering 1,000s of dollars for a "piece of the action". Eventually, the tapes sold to some private collectors for much less than the original asking price. The tapes were offered to Trinifold (the Who's management company) and to the surprise of the owners, they were turned down. Eventually, VHS copies started "floating around" (in a "I'll make you a copy if you promise not to make another copy!" kinda way - you know how trustworthy tape traders are) and someone sent the soundtrack to the bootleggers to create a CD.

While the liner notes say, "...mastered direct from the 3/4" reels, there's too much graininess as if there was at least one VHS tape in-between. However, that shouldn't distract anyone from a very special and rare performance of a complete, vintage Who concert.

It's a wonderful show and for the most part, very good sound quality (some technical problems exist). It is not recorded in 5.1 as the box suggests.

Not quite an officially released video - apparently this concert was broadcast via satellite and as usual, somebody somewhere has the ability to record it. While only 80 minutes long (not a full set list as The Who were not the exclusive performer at this venue), the performance is outstanding, the picture quality is close to excellent and the sound quality is great (as well as nicely mixed). A very enjoyable show!

The Who Live Ohio

A bit of confusion over the dates shown on the box, versus the actual concert date. Copies of this DVD (apparently offered in several variations) began to appear from the UK, immediately after a UK, promo <PAL format> VHS tape was offered on e-bay. That promo was produced in 1997, but the actual concert was in 1996. It seems that this DVD is a direct copy off of that tape. A great performance by the band -The DVD is an excellent dub with a mono soundboard audio track. Unfortunately, the two instrumental songs "Quadrophenia" & "The Rock" were produced with severe edits, marring this otherwise complete "Quadrophenia" show (no encore songs included).

Nice pro-shot video and excellent audio soundboard of one of the "full-length" 1989 Who concerts. Very enjoyable to watch and listen to as you're "transported" to the first row of "the return of The Who" (7 years after the "Final Tour"). For us fans who thought "it was all over", this tour was a great surprise and a welcomed event. Now dubbed by some fans as, "The Who On Ice Tour" (due to the extended band on stage and horns during songs like "Baba O'Riley"), back then these shows were a special treat - The 4+ hour sold-out shows at Giants Stadium ran for 4 nights. 

The set list of these shows (see below for set list) were fairly diverse, comprising of a large "Tommy" medley, rarely played solo songs (i.e. "Too Late The Hero"), classic Who songs and neat covers (i.e. "Hey Joe" & "Love Hurts"). This video is pretty complete, sans the encore songs and appears to be dubbed off of a 2nd generation VHS tape. Also includes bonus material, such as tour rehearsal and various TV interviews.

Pro-shot video (seems like a dub from a 2nd generation video tape), with excellent sound quality. A much tighter show than the common "Who Rocks America" (Toronto, 12/17/82) - although not as "fast paced" as some of the other shows on the 1982 tour. Besides a different set list than the Toronto show, Roger's vocals are much stronger and the mix is much different - better on both the drums and the bass. Very enjoyable and a must have if you're a fan of the '82 tour.
